    Hi,

I’ve got 2 forms now, both based on the same list:

    Form 1: https://www.mindofyourown.nl
    Form 2: https://www.mindofyourown.nl/koers-goeroe/

Form 1 adds / updates the user to Interest Group A on the main list.
Form 2 adds / updates the user to Interest Group B on the main list.

Both work. However, when a user is already known in the list, even though the user is not in the Interest Group A or B, the error message will say “Already subscribed”. Plus, the user is not being added to the Interest Group and therefore the Automation for that group is not being triggered.

Is there a way to fix it?

I’ve got the setting for both forms on “Existing Interest Group – Update” and “Update Existing Subscriber – No”.

Another question: The title for “Update Existing Subscriber” is a little confusing, I would have guessed this would mean updating the current user with new filled in fields. For example: Before the user was only known through an email address and now fills out First Name, this then would be added.

Does that actually happen, updating the user when they are already subscribed?

    Hi,

I think I am a little confused as to your questions.

If the user is assigned to a mailing list, they are already assigned to the list – whether or not they have been assigned to an interest group or not. This is because they are still on the mailing list, just without any interest groups assigned.

If you want them to be able to updat etheir info, switch interest groups – or remove an interest group altogether – you can set the form to ‘Update Existing Subscriber’. This allows the uers to fill out there info, and if they are already on a list – they can send an email to themselves which would allow them to update any of their associated info.

Setting this option to ‘No’ will not allow an existing user to update their info – which means once they have subscribed, they no longer can change their info. They can only unsubscribe via the link in the emails you send to them from within a MailChimp campaign.

    Thanks,
    Evan

    Hi Evan,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I’d like to use automations to send mails to my clients. These automations are based on interest groups. So different groups have different automations.

The issue is that when someone is subscribed to my mailing list, they will not be added to another group since it will give an error ‘already subscribed’.. So if I have a form adding people to my list only new subscribers will go to the list and therefore to the group and therefore receive the automation..

So how can I add already subscribed list users to a new group automatically?

If this is not possible the only option is to make a separate list for this form and connect the form to an automation. That’s OK but I can’t select more than one list for a form. That means I would have to manually copy users to my main mailing list all the time to send them my newsletters..

    Or am I missing something?

    Thanks so much for helping!

    Hi Liv,

Do you have ‘Update Existing Subscriber’ set to ‘Yes’? If so, the only was for users to update there information is to send themselves the update email and update the associated info with their account.

You may also want to look into the option

You cannot update your account info using the form without first going through the two factor authentication process, for security reasons.

Everything should be updatable for the user with that email that gets sent out.

We do have plans to allow users to toggle on/off the two factor authentcation in a future release of the plugin – we are just working on squashing a few smaller bugs that have been lingering.

    Thanks,
    Evan

    Hi Evan,

No it’s on No, thanks for the explanation, I get the part about ‘Update Subscriber’ not being able to update information.

So you’re saying it’s not possible for an already signed up contact, to add the person to an interest group within that same list when the person is using the signup form? There is no way to go around the error ‘already subscribed’?

If this is so, are there any plans to allow users to sign up to multiple lists at the same time? Right now when i create a form it asks me to choose from a list with a dropdown menu. Would it be possible to make this a select box so i can choose multiple lists?

    Cheers, Liv

    Hi Liv,

First it should be set to “Update Existing Subscriber” = Yes. https://yikesplugins.com/support/knowledge-base/opt-in-settings/

This will allow someone who is already signed up to a list update their profile, including being added to a new interest group.

Also, Interest groups should show up as checkboxes on the form so users could sign up for as many as they like. https://yikesplugins.com/support/knowledge-base/interest-groups/

If you have it set up this way, they should not get an “Already subscribed” message and hit a wall. They should get a message asking them to click to send themselves an email to update their profile. We have this security measure in place because otherwise a person would only need another person’s email address to update their profile.

We have plans to add an option to toggle this validation off, but in the meantime we have a code snippet you can use: https://yikesplugins.com/support/knowledge-base/turn-off-email-verification-profile-updates/

I hope this clarifies things. The form should be able to do what you need.

    Thank you!

    Hi Live,

We added a few new things to the latest update that we just pushed out today that will help you.

    1. Under Opt-in Settings we added Send Update Email yes/no. If it’s set to No the user will not have to do the email verification step before updating their profile. It will just update after the form is submitted.
    2. Under Submission Settings we added Existing Interest Groups Replace/Update. Replace will replace all interest groups with the new ones submitted. Update will update only the ones submitted. Leave existing interest groups as is.

I hope this solves your issues.

    Thank you!

Never mind…it worked! Must have just been a delay in updating the MC servers. THANKS!

Does the interest group have to be a checkbox? I accidentally set mine up as a radio button, and have the form default to checked. New subscribers work properly, being added to the list and the new group. Existing subscribers are not being updated, even though I have it set to Update Existing Subscriber=Yes, and Send Update Email=No.

So I’m wondering if the issue is the radio button vs checkbox, or if there is a plugin issue.
    EasyForms version 6.1.4
    Wordpress version 4.6.1

    Thank you.
