    Hi,

    thanks for the great plugin!
We wanted to use it to notify commenters (not users in WordPress), when their comment has been approved by a moderator/admin and that it is now visible to user views on the website.

We have fiddled around with the “Comment approved” notification for posts, but it seems it’s not possible to sent the notification to the person who actually created the comment, but only to internal users.
Are we missing something or is this correct?
    If yes, is this intentional?
Again, if yes, would you consider making this an option in the future?

Let me know if you have any questions

    Cheers from Hannover, Germany

    Joda

    Hi @simjost,
    Thanks for your message.

You can use the ‘Send this notification to the Author’ checkbox on the New Comment notification to send it to a non-registered commenter. This will send after their comment has been approved.

    Does this help?

    Hi @bnfw,

    thanks for the answer.
In the current version of the plugin the tooltip for that checkbox says:
“E.g. If you want a new comment notification to go to the author of the post that was commented on, tick this box.”
Suggesting it will not send a notification to the author of the comment, but the other of the post thats being commented on.

I tried it and it seems to work. The wording should be adjusted though ??

    Thanks!

    Hi @simjost,
    Apologies – I’m getting confused.

Just checked and the wording appears correct – the New Comment notification will go to the Post author if this checkbox is ticked.
If you moderate comments and want a notification to go to the person who commented, even if they’re not a registered user, then you can use the Comment Approved notification which will be sent to them after their comment has been approved.

More details can be found in the ‘Send this notification to the Author only’ section of this page: https://betternotificationsforwp.com/documentation/notifications/adding-a-new-notification/

    Does this help?

    Hi @bnfw,

yes, we haved used that option, but the “Send to Author” tooltip is still confusing here. It still says, the Author of the post, not comment will receive the notification.
But it works fine and actually the author of the comment receives the notification.

Thanks for the continued help. As everything works only the wording needs to be adjusted.

    Cheers

    Oh, I see – because it’s a comment-related notification.
Not a problem – I can see how that might be confusing. I’ll change the wording to something else in the next release.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention ??

    Hi @voltronik,

thanks for taking the issues serious. I haven’t seen a change in the wording until now though ??

Most importantly I am still missing a way to send a notification to the comment author to notify them, that their comment is waiting on an approval from an admin.
We had users contact the page admins, because they didn’t see the little moderation notice right after they submitted their comment, asking where there comment is. Or simply posting the comment multiple times.

Currently there seems to be no way to do this.

    Hi @simjost,

I haven’t released the update where the tooltip wording is updated yet but it will definitely be coming in a future version of BNFW.

With regards to sending a notification to the comment author when their comment is held for moderation, cAn you confirm that using the ‘New Comment Awaiting Moderation’ notification with the ‘Send this notification to the Author’ checked or unchecked doesn’t give you this functionality?

    Hi @voltronik,

    thanks for the quick feedback.
Great to hear, that this is still on the roadmap.

Yes, I have tried that option and it doesn’t send the notification to the comment author, but the author of the post the comment is made on.

    Ok, thanks.
Did you try both options? Being on or off?
I ask because it could be either a whole in my documentation or that I need to add a new checkbox to specific notifications that related to comments only.

    Hey @voltronik,

we have the option off currently and have added a specific user/admin in the from field, who deals with all comments and approves them. There are only emails sent to him, no other person including the comment author.
If the option is on, the email is sent to the author of the post.

I have not tested the notification with the option off and no one in the from field as well.

    Thanks @simjost,
I think this notification will need an additional checkbox.

I’ve added it to the roadmap and will investigate in the coming weeks.

    @voltronik Thanks for fixing this.
I just checked this again, as I snoozed the issue for me. I was surprised it worked now, without receiving a notification from you. Now I know why, you didn’t comment about it here ??

    Thanks anyway!
