• Hello.
I’ve recently got a new server with WP on it. I’m using it with ForumEngine to provide forum platform in our company.
Now I’m trying to configure emails settings.
    1. [How] Can I send emails internally without MailGun or other?
I do familiar with WP-Mail-SMTP but yet i’m not sure why do I need to go outside the company. My SharePoint server, for example, just need SMTP server name to do the same job.

    2. Emails I’m getting from MailGun contains ‘on behalf of’ and other gibberish. My IT ‘specs’ don’t understand what exactly they need to do to fix this and I can’t explain them (something related to DNS and domain validation). Maybe one of you can explain this here better than me..

    Thanks in a advance!

    1. Your SharePoint server is using a Windows-only technology (called NetBIOS) to find the Exchange server. The rest of the Internet doesn’t work like that and you need to put in the SMTP address, either a DNS name or an IP address.
    2. When Outlook shows you ‘on behalf of’ it means Mailgun recognized that you spoofed you Sender address – you used a Sender domain that you haven’t been authorized for – and Mailgun is went ahead and authorized for a domain you ARE allowed to use to prevent an SPF/DKIM failure on the receiving end. I think adding your Sending domain to Mailgun settings, or using the correct Sender address in the first place, will solve this problem

    Hi, Postman
    1. Regarding the

    rest of the Internet

    :
my WP server is local as our SMTP so I’m trying to understand why I need to use 3rd party provider (such as Mailgun) to send emails inside the company.

    2. Your answer is very informative for me, but my IT guys don’t understand (?) what exactly they need to do (add something on our side, provide something on Mailgun side)..

    thanks

it’s your choice to use Mailgun. I can’t tell you why you made that choice ??

If your IT team has setup a local SMTP server, use that server. They probably also gave you a username and password and e-mail address to go alone with it. That’s all you need.

I’m very sorry but I don’t get you:
is there a way to send email without any provider but by our internal SMTP?
The only thing i see is ‘choose your provider’ in dashboard mail settings..
Is WP-MAIL-SMTP working directly with internal servers?

    Thanks

If your mail server can handle SMTP relaying and permits Reply-To then yes. There are many plugins that will handle that straight forwarding for you.

But that’s really a conversation with your IT team and to be frank, some IT teams working with mail are er, not up to the challenge. ??

    Show them this part.

If your IT team has setup a local SMTP server, use that server. They probably also gave you a username and password and e-mail address to go alone with it. That’s all you need.

If they can help you then you will be set. If they don’t know how to do that (SMTP isn’t that hard) then perhaps they can escalate to their mail software vendor for support. The rest of us here can’t really assist you with that.
