• Hi,
I’m running a mac (OS 10.3.4). I don’t have a hardware firewall, I’m running Netbarrier, but disabled it, and I’m still getting a “Sending Referrers” error, and I have no idea what it is, other than some PC users have software firewalls or something…I dunno.
In any case, I can’t do delete posts or comments, etc…all the usual stuff. But, I have no idea how it relates to the Mac.
    Any ideas?

Well, I checked my PC, and deleting posts works…so it’s definitely a Mac thing. Something about Mac browswers (?) that’s preventing sending referrers (and, I don’t even know what they are)? Any ideas?

try mozilla or opera for mac. safari i read before has some issues…

No, they both work fine. My OS9 machine works fine too. Both are running Netbarrier. Maybe there’s a _root setting I don’t know about? I need to get this working…ugh!

I just “succesfully” installed WordPress but I am getting the same cryptic error when I try to delete the included Links.
The warning “Sorry, you need to enable sending referrers, for this feature to work” doesn’t even have the courtesy of saying WHAT a “sending referrer” is. Is it something one sets in WordPress? Is it something one sets on one’s web hosting Perl thingee? Is it something one sets on their personal computer? Is it something one sets on their Norton’s Internet Security? Is it something one sets on one’s browser?
Come on, WordPress, throw us a bone here. Banish the technobabbly and tell us what the freak this is.

It’s something one sets on one’s personal computer. A referrer is basically the link you click on to get to whatever page you are currently looking at. Your browser stores this information, and it is accessable via javascript etc on the current site. Some browsers/firewalls disable this functionality for privacy reasons. You need to re-enable it basically.
