  • Hi @smartlemon,

    1. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.5.3?

    2. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    3. If you manually add a breadcrumb title does the issue resolve? This guide explains more about how to add one: https://yoast.com/help/change-breadcrumb-title/#posts.

    Hi,
    1. yes we are using 5.5.3
    2. yes all other active plugins are updated
    3. i will try this, but it would be huge work to set that title manually for all sites!
    Is there no other way?

    thx

    Hello Christian,

The Yoast SEO plugin takes the name from the page name. In this case, it could be that the name is missing from your frontpage. Can you please check the page you’re using as your front page and make sure you added a title to this page? If not, does adding the title resolve the issue, ‘either name or item.name should be specified’?

    Hi,
for sure the page has a title.
It is the same for all pages. Adding the breadcrumg title did also not resolve the problem

    thx, christian

    Hello Christian,

We see that you are using Font-Awesome icons on your site. In the breadcrumb path, an icon is used to represent ‘Home’. See image. This approach will result in ‘name’ missing as reported in the Google Search Console.

You can ignore the warning or speak with your theme developer or web developer on how to change from the font-awesome icon.

    Thanks!

Thx for your message! Thats sounds logic.
Can you suggest something other than the font-awesome. The customer wants to have any “Home”-Icon

Hi, so i replaced the icon with the text “Home” in the breadcrumb settings, but if i do a live Test in Search Console i still get the same error!

    regards, christian

    Hi Christian,

We checked your example page and each BreadcrumbList item now has a name assigned to it and does not display any errors. See the results from the Google Structured Data Testing Tool under WebPage.

It looks like the Google Rich Results Test expects there to be a name property for the main breadcrumb list, not just the items in the breadcrumb trail. Since Google’s BreadcrumbList documentation doesn’t require the “name” for BreadcrumbList and the “name” property is only required for the items in the list, this appears to be a problem with how the Google tests breadcrumbs, not a problem with the schema data. See this discussion in the Google Search support forum.

We also found the “Unnamed item” notification when you test Google’s recommended schema data in the Rich Results Test here: Google’s breadcrumb schema example.
