Hi Guys – SEO data Optimization will not complete. I’m getting the “Oops, something has gone wrong…” message.

After turning off all the plugins and turning them back on one at a time, and clicking “Start SEO Data Optimization” I’ve finally narrowed it down to a conflict with Page Builder by SiteOrigin.

When this plugin is active, the SEO data optimization gets very close to completing, and then fails, popping the “Oops, something has gone wrong…” error message.

WP and all my plugins are up to date. There are no JS errors. The optimization will complete just fine if Page Builder by SiteOrigin is turned off.

Any ideas how to solve this conflict? Thanks!

    Hi,

We understand you are having difficulties with completing the SEO data optimization process.

Can you clarify if you are using the latest version of WordPress 5.7.1 and Yoast SEO for WordPress 16.1.1 on your site?

If you see the ‘oops something went wrong’ notification upon running the SEO data optimization, most often it is the result of something blocking the REST API. We use the WordPress REST API in the backend to help run the tool and if it is blocked, this notification is outputted.

We understand you mentioned that with only Yoast SEO and Site Origin as the only plugins enabled, you were able to encounter this message. Did you also revert to a default WordPress theme such as TwentyTwenty, just to ensure there isn’t a theme conflict?

And when you got the error message, there weren’t any JS errors appearing in the browser’s console? There should most likely be an error in the browser’s console (or network tab) for it to prompt the ‘oops something went wrong’ notification.

You can learn more about it here — https://yoast.com/help/seo-data-optimization-not-complete-successfully/

Hi there – Thanks for your help! I’m using the default theme. WP and Yoast are current. No errors in JS console. And my host is not blocking the REST API.

But after further testing, I found it’s not PageBuilder. It’s actually the combination of 2 other plugins. It fails when these two specific plugins are active.

My question is: Can I disable one of these plugins temporarily (the SEO optimization completes if only 1 is on, but not both), run the optimization, and then turn the plugin back on after it completes? Or, once I activate both plugins, will Yoast stop indexing posts/pages correctly in the future?

    Thanks ??

    Hi @musicman847 ,

Yes, you can temporarily disable the conflicting plugins to complete the optimization. Once the site-wide scan has successfully completed and saved to the database, you would not need to run it again in most setups. You may turn on the conflicting plugins again and it should not affect the data that’s already indexed.
