    Greetings everyone!

This is my first post and I could use some help. I have done a personal blog for myself. Everything is working smoothly but the thing is: I’d like to run two wordpress sites for two seperate language on same domain.

I intend to write in Turkish for local readers and English for the whole world. I’ve planned achieve this by “.com/tr” and “.com/en” while the entire website is practically same. I want to put code for standard “index.php” to recognize visitors country and send them over to Turkish or English appropriately.

But would that compromise search engine optimization results? I’m hoping to be 1# at google seach when typed “Freelance Graphic Designer Istanbul” and if it’s going to damage it, i need to find an alternative.

    Thanks alot in advance!

You know, I don’t know… I know that if you use subfolders (i.e. “.com/tr” and “.com/en”) that Google sees it as the SAME site, and if you use subdomains (.e. tr.site.com and en.site.com) they’re separate…

Logically it should see them as the same site, but with duplicated content in separate languages so that should be okay. Otherwise no one would bother to go multilingual!

Hello Ipstenu, are you suggesting I should go from sub-folder to sub-domain?

I’m not sure! ?? I know, that was heartening. The quick research I did makes me think that it shouldn’t matter.

    Alrgiht, thank you for input.

Here is another idea: what about putting one at https://www.site.com and one at site.com, with clear links between the two.
https://www.site.com and https://site.com are apparently separate domains: two for the price of one.

Also, if you wanted to use subdomains, you wouldn’t necessarily need multisite: just install wordpress at both the subdomain and the main domain.

Happy to be corrected if I am off track, but this might give you some ideas

Google is now (since yesterday) counting subdomains as internal links.

    Thanks Andrea:
I saw a major drop in rankings of a multisite with the format microniche.niche.com about a month ago which I attributed to this.

Google would also present results as:
    microniche1.niche.com/
    microniche2.niche.com/
    See more results from niche.com

I’d seen this occasionally before but it became common about a month ago and some of my sites dropped heaps in ranking.
Domain mapping them onto a new domain resulted in immediate improvement to previous levels.

I’ve seen Google say they treated subdomains as subfolders anyway before, so I was never sure what to make of it.

Anyway, that article is very useful thanks

As of about a month ago, Google was fiddling with their algorithms, so that makes sense.

Well, thanks guys. You’ve been really helpful ??

Google is now (since yesterday) counting subdomains as internal links.

So far, this only applies to Webmaster Tools. It doesn’t affect how links are valued in relation to the search algorithm or ranking, nor does it influence keywords or PageRank. I would hope that someday this would change, so that you can specify that a subdomain be counted toward PageRank of the root domain if you wanted it that way. Would save a lot of work and make things possible that now aren’t.

I’ve been searching all day, looking for solutions to allow a current sub-domain in Multisite to be accessed as a sub-folder of a domain and, when I read this, was heartened that I may not have to do anything tricky anymore to get it done. The domain is a static site on another IP# (same server); which makes it doubly difficult, if not impossible, to make the blog sub-domain appear in it as a sub-directory. There are a couple of other domains that I’d do this with, too. Moving the static content into WP is an option that I’d just as soon not take. All I want to do is get the PR all in one place without moving whole sites around.

It will. Signs point to this being a part of Panda (that’s Google’s new search engine frooforall).

You can redirect a subdomain to a subfolder (or vice versa) via htaccess. Which is what I did when I moved some subdomains to folders.
