I am using your free Yoast SEO Plugin for a number of clients.

Recently in the last few weeks, I notice that after installing the Yoast SEO plugin onto a site & obviously activating, that when I go onto a particular page to make changes to the site (already has content) , that it says on the right hand side “SEO Unavailable” and greyed out. There is content already in there and I can still ADD/edit the Yoast SEO snippet area for Title & Description etc.

I have never had this issue with any of my clients previously. The last 4 weeks I have at least 6 clients with the issue.

I have always used 4.5.2 WordPress and have recently upgraded some clients to 4.6.1 and still the “SEO is Unavailable” on each page of their website.

The Plugin is Version 3.8 the current one and I just upgraded this site to 4.6.1. Still not working – still greyed out. It was still greyed out in WordPress 4.5.2

As I mentioned, I have noticed other client websites recently doing the same “never used to be greyed out” and now they are. Maybe when I have recently upgraded the Yoast SEO Plugin version there is a compatibility issue somewhere with current WordPress version ?

I have another client on my localhost test server which I am currently doing a 1 page website for and just installed WordPress 4.6.1 and the plugin still is greyed out which is very strange. Using SEO Plugin 3.8

Another client that has been live for over 4 weeks the SEO is still working on it. https://completekerbingmelbourne.com.au/wp-admin
The plugin version on this one is 3.6.1, and WordPress Version is upgraded to 4.6.1 and SEO working perfectly.

Maybe the Version of Yoast SEO Plugin has an issue with a particular WordPress version. Are you aware of this ?

Yoast SEO Version 3.8 your current plugin is NOT working with WordPress 4.6.1 but your Plugin Yoast SEO 3.6.1 works fine with WordPress 4.6.1 which is strange to me.

How can I download version of Yoast SEO 3.6.1 so I can rectify the issues temporarily for some clients. I can only seem to find 3.6 to download, even copying the plugin from the live site that is working perfectly and activating on my temporary site it still says 3.6 instead of 3.6.1.

Do you have any other ideas or suggestions to fix the clients who are affected ? Revert them back to an older plugin version ?

Also another way I can tell that the SEO is not working properly, is that when I click on the SEO TITLE on the left hand side in WordPress ADMIN after all plugins are installed, there are ONLY 3 Options to choose:

    Dashboard
    Search Console
    Go Premium

With all my other sites and when the SEO is working in full, it has at least 10 items to choose from in the SEO area including Sitemap, XML, Title & Metas, Tools, Advanced etc.

This is not available when it is greyed out. Something is obviously causing it, and must be some sort of version confliction somewhere.
    Thx
    Kristin

Sorry thought I had resolved it, but still greyed out. I went into SEO Dashboard, and I went into Features ….Yoast SEO comes with a lot of features. You can enable / disable some of them below. I ENABLED the Advanced settings pages which was DISABLED for some reason on installation which normally isn’t. Now I can see all the other things on the SEO list on the left hand side like Sitemap, XML, Title & Metas, Tools, Advanced etc.

But when I go to edit a PAGE it still says “SEO : Not available” which is still greyed out.

    No idea why.

    Thx
    Kristin

“Not available” shows when their is no keyword defined. If you have defined a keyword and it shows “Not available”, there is likely a conflict within your setup. The fastest way to rule out conflicts is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Sixteen. If this resolves the issue, you have a conflict and should activate one plugin at a time until you locate the conflict. Finally, after all plugins are active, switch to your theme. This will narrow down the conflict to a specific plugin or theme.

If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. You can find it here: How To Check For Plugin Conflicts
