• Hi all; I’m quite new to this but quite interested and obsessive. I am using a child theme so that I can make edits.. so far so good. Problem is – I was using an “wordpress SEO” Plugin that worked (mostly) well before I switched my theme to the child theme. This plugin adds meta data to your pages.
Using a meta tag analyzer to check my site, (my site is not a blog, using as a static site) the results return “Found no description meta tag.”
Using the parent theme, all tags are present(keyword, description etc..)and the analyzer returns good results.
In my child theme folder are:

      footer.php
      functions.php(empty)
      header.php
      rtl.css
      screenshot.png
      search.php
      searchform.php
      style.css

The plugin still works if I switch themes back to/activate parent theme. What am I missing? I have searched forums for hours to no avail.
PS- when the plugin did/does work (parent theme activated), it only worked on the home page, though it’s supposed add meta to every page. Haven’t figured that one out either.
    site is https://www.NyHomeTheaterInstallation.com
    Thanks in advance. Adam

  • Hello,

Some child themes like from Genesis from (StudioPress) have their own inbuilt SEO fields for each page.

Please be more clear, provide us parent theme name as well as child themes used.

Hi & thanks for the reply. My parent theme is WP’s TwentyEleven. I’m using a plugin called ‘one-click child theme’ to create the child theme. It seems to do exactly what anyone would do to create a child theme. I have since added the meta description, and keyword tags to my header.php, which works fine but data is the same for each page. Also (maybe unrelated), since I made these changes, my spot on Google went from #3 to #18 to gone. I was ranking well when using my domain name as a search term.
I have been wondering about using Genesis, I just feel I’m making too many changes for an amateur.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Adam

I have also de-activated the seo plugin that I was using (Seo WordPress)
