On my website I’ve set all the pages so that the SEO titles are: ‘Site title’ – ‘Title’, but Google shows them as: ‘Title’ – ‘Site Title’. I changed the meta description of one page recently and google has crawled it and updated the description in google rankings, but the title remains wrong. Any idea why this is happening?

Can you please provide us with an example URL of one of the pages that you are experiencing this issue on, so that we can review the source code to determine whether Yoast SEO is outputting the title tag correctly?

The title you enter in our snippet preview is a suggestion for Google. If you’ve crafted awesome titles for your blog posts, nothing is more annoying than Google showing another title for your site in the search results.

Reviewing the example page, we found

    * The title tag output on the page is Site title – Title
    * There is only one title tag
    * Google has cached the title tag shown on the page
    * Google search results show Title – Site title

This means that Google has received your preferred title and has chosen to override it with their own version.

Google’s generation of page title is completely automated. Google’s goal is to best represent and describe each result. They use a number of different sources to get this information. In doing so, they try to make the search results as relevant as possible. Due to this being handled on Google’s end, there is little you can do to force Google to display your preferred title.
