seo – using mega menu widget or children mega menu?

  • Hi there,

    I want to use the mega menu on my site. Since I found out two different ways to use the mega menu I`m wondering about which way is the better one for seo?

    Here is what I mean in detail:
    I have to ways to use the mega menu
    1) using the widget function, that means display the pages I would like to have in my mega menu by using the widget. I can set a title over the list of pages which is just a title NOT a single page (compare this to part 2))
    2) using the menu and sub menu/children menu function, that means I can set up a main page and put several subpages as a children menu under the the main page(via the drag & drop function). Compared to the version 1) the main page = the title of the version 1. But here I have to set up a whole page instead of a simple title. The sub pages are displayed below the main page in the mega menu that means that the main page functions as a title in the mega menu.

    The question for me now is, which version is better for seo? I think the second one right? Because in version 1 I place the pages in a widget are while in version 2 I place them in a sub navi? Is that correct???

    The code looks somethink like this:
    mega-menu-item mega-menu-item-type-WIDGET mega-menu-columns-2 mega-menu-clear mega-menu-item-pages-2

    vs

    mega-menu-item mega-menu-item-type-post_type mega-menu-item-object-page mega-menu-item-has-CHILDREN mega-align-bottom-left mega-menu-megamenu mega-menu-item-32

    Can anybody answer that question???

    Hi Cassy,

    Good question. Unfortunately, I don’t know the answer..!

    I don’t think either option will affect SEO too much (if at all), the HTML output by the menu should be pretty similar no matter which option you use.

    Personally I think I would go down the widget route, as the widget manager gives you greater control over where the items will show up, and you won’t have an unwieldy menu to deal with.
