Separate Blog Page – Show specific category

I’ve figured it out, I used this code before the loop:

query_posts( array ( 'category_name' => 'my-category-slug' ) );

For some reason the Codex telling me to use this didn’t work:

$query = new WP_Query( 'cat=3,8' );

Please note that this is not a theme issue, actually.

Using query_posts is not recommended.

Probably easiest solution to your problem is not to set up blog page in Settings > Reading (just leave the “Posts page:” dropdown at “— Select —” option) and then add a category archive link to your website menu.

Another solution would be to use a plugin. A bit of searching brought me to this: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ultimate-category-excluder/ Please note I haven’t tested the plugin.

If you still want to do this with the code, you should use a pre_get_posts action hook.
