Hello, I’ve been having a difficult time with WordPress caching, due to my site using an entirely different theme for mobile as opposed to desktop. I’m trying to figure out if Comet is worth a try.

Does Comet Cache have any provision for sites with different mobile themes? In other words, will Comet cache my mobile theme version of site and serve the cached files based on user agent?

To clarify, the site in question is not “responsive,” instead it delivers theme files and css from entirely separate theme versions/folders.

Or is there another solution for caching a WordPress site that uses two entirely different themes?

Thanks for any help with this. MTN

  • @mountainguy2 Comet Cache does not have a ‘mobile mode’ at this time, however we have a feature request open and it’s currently high on our list of priorities for an upcoming release.

In the meantime, you could use the User-Agent Exclusion Patterns feature to exclude any mobile User-Agents from the cache, that way the mobile theme doesn’t get cached.

The other option is to have a deeper integration between the theme and Comet Cache by using Dynamic Version Salts. With that feature, you can tell Comet Cache to create a separate version of the cache whenever the mobile version of the theme is loaded. Some theme developers, such as the Weaver II Theme, have special integration with Comet Cache for this purpose.

Ok, thanks so much for the response. Please keep in mind that some of us out here in the trenches like to run entirely dedicated themes specific to mobile, and a cache that has specific caching just for mobile, and another cache for desktop, would be so incredible.

It’s actually pretty strange how with most WordPress caching, all sorts of options exist for _excluding_ mobile from caching, while that’s actually as important, or moreso, than caching desktop.

Further, many of us simply don’t have the time to be theme and plugin developers.

    Thanks, MTN

BTW Weaver II Theme phasing out, superseded by Weaver Xtreme Theme, used both and continuing. Options to tweak and insert code plus integral mobile responsiveness. Add the Weaver Xtreme Plus extension for even deeper options. Excellent support forum. Might be less hassle than two builds but don’t know what I don’t know, curious, maybe it is more effective to keep mobile separate for some situations? (Edit, oops I see we time-crossed.)

Comet Cache v161221 has been released and the Pro version now includes a Mobile Mode option. See the v161221 announcement for further details.
