separate comment list from form

    If I want the comments in a <div> and the form in another, how do I separate these?
    I have tweaked the comments.php or the template, tried taking out the list and pasting it in a page template……sorry for the noob-ness.

    I really appreciate any help.

    … basically being able to call the comments list separately.

    how do I keep all the info attached from the form to comments without using <?php comments_template(); ?>
