Separating content to create a new theme

Hello members.

I was hoping I can get some direction to adding the correct php content/code when I create the individual .php files (index.php, header.php, content.php and footer.php).

I have recreated a new “home” html (template) page and created the proper divs. I’m ready to separate and create the php files. In this new home page, I will need to include a java-based slide show which I have assigned a div withing the header div and a music file (mp3) that will play in the background inside the footer div. Will I need any additional code for these elements to work correctly.

I basically want to add a small blog section which will only display 1 post at a time.
