Sequential order #’s

Is there a way to have sequential order numbers, without gaps? I am assuming order # is using post id.

Currently the order numbers have gaps between them. For example, we have the following orders:

#1663
#1665
#1669
#1672

We would like them to be in order, i.e.

#1663
#1664
#1665
#1666

Is this something you can address in your next release? It makes sense to have orders without gaps in the nubmering, so we can identify any issues with missing orders.
