    Hello,

Could anyone advise me on an option/plugins to add serial numbers of the shipped items to certain orders upon finalising the orders, please?

I don’t want to store Serial Numbers for unsold items, but when an item is sold (a physical product) I want to attach its S/N to the order to be able to track the warranty period.

I’ve googled myself but with no luck. I would appreciate any help. Please advise.

  • Hello,

It seems like the Returns and Warranty Requests – RMA Management extension might help you in this case.

It includes a Warranty Form builder to help your customers to submit a warranty request.

If this extension doesn’t work according to your needs, or you think another product would work better, you can receive a refund according to the WooCommerce refund policy.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you, it looks interesting. But looks like it does not store Serial Numbers. Without S/Ns it would not be possible to track if the item was sold in the particular store. I need to store S/Ns with the orders. Please advise.

    Hello,

An approaching to the model you described, is using the extension Software Add-On, and the Follow Up Emails?that will allow you to send emails after purchases based on events, for example, as after a product has been purchased, after order status is set to X, etc.

If you already have the serial numbers, you can import them into the plugin and use it: https://woocommerce.com/document/software-add-on/#import-license

    Other alternatives:

There is a plugin available at the www.ads-software.com repository, called Digital Warranty Card Generator, I am not fully familiar with it, but it is an option.

    Hope this helps.

Igor, thank you for your participation. This looks much closer to what I need. But the solutions assume adding serial numbers to every product before selling. In fact, the solutions are about selling serial/licence numbers, but what I need looks like this:

    Customer bought a physical product(s)
-> I scan the product serial number in the warehouse (with a hand scanner)
-> The serial number ads to the product in the order (already paid, waiting for dispatch)
-> When I’m done with the serial numbers (of the product(s) I’m actually shipping), I box the product(s) and mark the order as Completed.

Also, there should be a way to search for a certain serial number (in case of an issue the customer sends me his product serial number so I can make sure it was bought from me, not from another seller).

Ideally, there also should be a message next to a certain serial number in my S/N base (in the search results), showing date of purchase and, basing on the brand (on a product global attribute), showing whether the warranty is ended (and how many days ago) or it is still valid (for how many more days).

Please advise if there is anything similar (at least partially).

    Hi @grayhunter

Thanks for providing further information about your requirement here.

This is a fairly complex development topic that would require customization to do it. Since custom coding is outside our scope of support, I am leaving this thread open for a bit to see if anyone can chime in to help you out.

For questions related to development and custom coding, your best bet is to ask on any of these channels for support. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there, too.

Additionally, I did some research and found these plugins could be a good starting point:

    Hope this helps!

xue28, thank you for your participation and for the links! The plugins do not what I need (they are for serial numbers selling, not keeping/tracking for warranty purposes) but thanks anyway.

    Hi,

Sorry, I think I was not clear enough. My effort was to show you that there are alternatives.

I understand that, the alternatives presented do not fit your needs. I haven’t found a plugin that fits all the needs you are looking for.

Another approaching is to add extra info to the orders (In this case the serial numbers), so that you can get the serials when checking the orders page.

Here there are some free plugins that are able to do that for you:

I hope this points you in the right direction.
