I have some serious concerns about the thought that went into this upgrade.

    • Understandable that you may require us to upgrade from a plugin being phased out, but how can we feel comfortable when 80% of the ratings are 1-star? Don’t you think it would be wise to make a statement on the review page that would put us at ease?
    • You call this new plugin WooCommerce PayPal Payments, yet my Payments tab page /wp-admin/admin.php?page=wc-settings&tab=checkout has a note at the top that “PayPal Checkout is almost ready. To get started, connect your account.” I am already using PayPal Checkout, I am already connected, and you are telling me to change to WooCommerce PayPal Payments, so why would you lead me to the new connection page using the wrong/old plugin name?
    • The new plugin as shown on the above page is simply PayPal, not WooCommerce PayPal Payments.
    • There is a “get started” button at the bottom of the above page beside WooCommerce Payments creating additional confusion. That causes an additional plugin to be installed.
    • On this new connection page /wp-admin/admin.php?page=wc-settings&tab=checkout&section=ppcp-gateway, everything is labeled PayPal Checkout. Nothing is labeled WooCommerce PayPal Payments which is what this new plugin is named.
    • There is an “Inbox” in the upper right of my WooCommerce Settings pages that has a message in it: Action Required: Deactivate PayPal Checkout … all you need to do is deactivate and/or remove the PayPal Checkout plugin from your store.” This would seem contrary to the documentation that says we need to re-establish our PayPal connection first.
    • It’s easy to miss the link on this page https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/ to the upgrade page.
    • Who is this person Inpsyde Niklas asking people to create tickets on a non-WordPress, non-WooCommerce, or non-PayPal URL https://paypal.inpsyde.com/docs/request-support/? Why would this not be explained in the documentation, and why isn’t creating a ticket on this support site sufficient where we can all review previous questions?

Very poor implementation guidance and labeling. Please comment on this so that I have a sense that I know what to do when we decide to make the switch.

  • I almost think that this really bad implementation and documenting of this plugins, (the reviews speaks by themselves) it can be a hidden commercial move to push towards “Woocommerce payments” service, discouraging the use of Paypal…

I agree this plugin is Junk and so is the implementation of it. We have now tried 3 times in 3 months to move to this plugin and each time we experience issues with the checkout compared to previous paypal solutions which for the most part work perfectly. With support for other paypal plugins supposidly ending in March and the security concerns that gives and given the volume of paypal payments processed this is seriously concerning as is the complete lack of response from the plugin owner on this board to address any of the issues.

Sadly agree. Failed orders etc etc. Money lost. There have been a number of updates with long gaps between them and issues not resolved. We can all get things wrong but for goodness sake when a plug in is used apparently on 200 000 sites they should be working round the clock to sort it. Say each site has lost £100. That is £20 000 000 over all those sites! No feeling of responsiveness or responsibility at all. Even if it was working properly there appears to be no smart button option on product pages to show debit/credit card payments possible without a Paypal account. So perhaps it is pushing towards having to have a PayPal account or indeed Woocommerce Payments as suggested? We have tried another plug in, which sadly we cannot get to work but my goodness support have been doing their best.

@automattic @woocommerce @niklasinpsyde Almost everything in my bulleted list above is different now, mostly non-existent. Will someone explain what is going on? I did not update any of the plugins since writing this, so how have you made those messages disappear? My biggest concern still is why you are instructing us to upgrade to a plugin that has a 1.5 star rating without some explanation on your part.

    Hello there,
Our PayPal Payments extension is the most modern PayPal integration we are offering now.

It comes with both PayPal Checkout and credit card payment through PayPal. I understand that you are concerned about the reviews and that is a valid point.

Let me assure you that we are constantly working on improving the extension based on the feedback that we receive in support and also on the reviews.

If you do not want to switch, that is fine. At the moment the current PayPal Checkout extension that you are using will keep working as usual. But again, PayPal Payments is our currently main PayPal extension and we might discontinue the older ones at some point, as we did for the core PayPal Standard payment method.
