• So my server was hacked and now every wordpress installation on the server (for the exception of the WP install in the root directory) has a permalink issue. It will not allow the post name, the links only work if it is set to ‘Default’ (/?p=123). I have tried removing the htaccess file so it created a new one, I have tried changing permalink options and then back again. None of this works. Any ideas how I can fix this? I have client websites on this server and one in particular is HUGE with hundreds of links.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Without knowing the extent of your server compromise, or having any knowledge of your environment or how you’re running Apache/Nginx/whatever – “the links only work if it is set to ‘Default’ (/?p=123)” – can sometimes be a general symptom of some issue with mod_rewrite relative to the sites not located in root.

You may need to consult someone who is adept in web server application configuration to assess the situation for you.

Thank you for your response. the main website is https://www.staceeandco.com – Here is one of the websites on the server having the issue: https://staceeandco.com/moveoutsea/

Are you using a Network installation (Multi-Site) of WordPress with sub-folder sites, or does each of your sites have its own separate installation of WordPress?

Each has its own separate installation.
