    Hi Pascal,
I’ve got several WordPress websites going, each one needs country blocking. I have country blocking available at server level by using Apache CSF firewall. Could leave that turned off and use IQ Block on each website. Assuming I blocked pretty much the same group of countries, what would be better in terms of bandwidth, server load, etc, do it with CSF or do it with IQ Block?

    Thanks, MTN

Usually how much more low level you can go with firewalling the better it is.

I don’t know Apache CSF Firewall. I know a CSF Firewall that uses iptables on the server. Which make sure that the traffic does not even reach your webserver.

Bandwidth wise you won’t gain much though. The request itself is not much traffic, the web server response isn’t either.

Server load wise the iQ Block Country is very lightweight so with a regular website iQ Block Country wil do just fine. Unless you have attacks on your website or very much traffic from countries that you want to block, but then the combination of Apache + PHP will cause the actual load not so much the iQ Block Country plugin ??

With CSF / iptables you probably will just drop the traffic so the visitor will not get a nice error message.

Ok, thanks so much Pascal. I’ll stick with using IQ Block as the country blocking on WordPress, and server firewall CSF for country blocking on FTP/SSH and email login attacks. Complicated. MTN

All security measures are complicated and pretty much outdated and the moment you configured them ??

If you don’t care about the visitors getting a non-standard error you can also use csf for blocking.

    Ok, thanks.
