I set up a bluehost account three days ago. Yesterday I could not login without support sending a reset password email and today I cannot login at all. They are having “server problems”. Is this typical?

  • It depends on the host provider. I find personally that Bluehost has lots of “server problems” or “server maintains”, as appose to a host like GoDaddy. But in general my site with Bluehost may be down for 15 minutes in a week. So I personally don’t see it as a big deal.

If you are having lots of server problems then I would suggest that you contact Bluehost. They have a great support staff and you can contact them by phone or live chat.

most of these casual shared hosts have down-times too often…
There’s a reason they are so cheap, low quality infrastructure.
I’v been hosting at WP-Engine for the past 3 month’s and i’m very satisfied.
Had down-time only once for 10 minutes, and even then, their dashboard and site was full of alerts notifying the users it is being fixed at the moment and their whole support team was super responsive even that it was passed their support hours.
personally I would never compromise about such a thing.

Turns out the “server problems” was code for “we don’t know why you can’t log in”. Eventually the billing department figured it out: the login name was wrong. The billing department also got to show that they were good at processing cancellations.

Awesome! Glad they were able to figure it out. Hopefully that won’t happen again to you.

That is a good point @megafreechips. If you go for the cheaper host providers out there then there is a good chance there will be more downtimes and errors.
