• Whenever I am in the theme editor inside wp-admin, the session expires and when I log back in, my theme Hum (together with its parent theme Twenty Eleven) goes missing from the list and my blog reverts to Twenty Fifteen. I checked via FTP, the folders of both Hum and Twenty Eleven are still there. It will stay this way for a while, gets fixed somehow, and then happens again when I go to the editor.

I had this problem yesterday too, and the theme that was showing after my session expired didn’t even exist anymore at that time.

What could be causing this? I tried looking at other threads, and I already removed the “www” from the address. Please help.

As of now, my blog (keiyoshikawa.com) is showing the theme Twenty Fifteen.

*update* After 15 mins, it fixed itself
*update* Right after editing, it’s showing Twenty Fifteen again

  • It could be a cache issue. Are you using a caching plugin or Cloudflare?

    Hello wslade.

No, I am not. Even when I re-installed WordPress, it still happened. It still is, actually. It just keeps going back and forth (current and old). I finally finished updating the theme but it still goes back to its old look every now and then. I really have no idea what’s happening.

Just to make sure I understand, when you were talking about removing www, were you talking about in Settings > General? So that the WordPress and Site addresses are exactly the same?

I see you are using Jetpack. Would you disable it to see if it may be conflicting? Jetpack can do so many things.

If Jetpack is not the issue, you may want to disable all plugins. You shouldn’t loose any of the plugin configuration if you just disable them. If your issue goes away, start turning on the plugins one at a time until you find the plugin causing the problem.

Good job on replacing the WordPress core. At least you know that the core is sound. If Jetpack or the plugins are not causing your problems, it points to your themes. Themes contain a functions.php file that is as likely to cause a conflict as any plugin. In your case you will have two of these functions.php files, one in the child and on in the parent.

I don’t know if it’s possible in your case but can you switch to an unmodified twenty fifteen theme and try to duplicate your error?

The odds are that your issue is a conflict. The above suggestions are to either find the conflict or rule out conflicts altogether.

If you find no hint of a conflict we can start troubleshooting sessions.

    Yes, that’s right.

I don’t think Jetpack is the issue since this happened even when WordPress was freshly re-installed and had no plugins yet. Tried deactivating everything but it still happens.

Also, it doesn’t revert to Twenty Fifteen now, but rather to an earlier version of my current theme. It just keeps switching back to the “older” version, then back to the updated one. This switch happens every 30 minutes or so.

Is this likely to be a WordPress caching issue? Or could this be a problem with the web host?

    Sorry for my English, btw.

So, you cannot disable your active theme and enable twenty fifteen? Exactly what happens when you try?

When your theme changes, is the theme being shown on your site marked as active in your dashboard?

I have been watching your site for a while and I haven’t noticed any change. I do see some dead image links due to missing Icons and missing images on your portfolio page.

So that I can tell when there is a change, please tell me what to look for between the old and new themes?

I am using a Chrome browser, what are you using and have you tried other browsers?

Your English is very good, better than mine in fact. ??

Sorry for the confusion. When I started this thread, my theme was switching back and forth from Hum to Twenty Fifteen. Every time a “rollback” occurs, Hum goes missing from wp-admin and it just automatically defaults to Twenty Fifteen even if the Hum folder still exists in the FTP.

So I tried re-installing WordPress, but the “rollbacks” are still happening. I recreated my old Hum theme but the old Hum theme *from the previous installation!* still appears.

This is how it looks like now. This was the look from the previous wordpress installation:

The new one I did after re-installing have identical social icons, if it helps ??

I am using Chrome and have a cachekiller enabled

After a few browser refreshes, this is what it looks like now:
    https://i57.tinypic.com/2ds2tk9.jpg

This is how the current theme’s supposed to look like. The one I linked earlier isn’t supposed to exist anymore, but it still does for some reason.

This is one of the social icons:
    https://keiyoshikawa.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/I.png

It says “not found” now, but when it changes back to the old theme, you’ll see that the link is not dead.

I see something similar to the image ending in 2tk9.jpg but your picture and the facebook Icon is not there. And the icons I see are different from those in the 2tk9.jpg image. I refresh every ten minutes or so and I have seen no changes.

Did you try other browsers to view your site?

    Thread Starter kyshkw

    (@kyshkw)

Yes, I did. Also tried Android and IOS. They’re always the same with what I see in Chrome.

What we are seeing as of this moment is the https://i62.tinypic.com/2pydz7p.jpg one, right? With the different larger facebook icon — this is the old one. It has since been deleted. It is from the old installation.

https://i57.tinypic.com/2ds2tk9.jpg – This one is a screenshot I took earlier in real time, and that is the correct and current theme. I just chanced upon it, and now the site’s back to the dz7p.jpg. The switch really happens fast. Some times 30 minutes, other times less than 10.

    It’s really strange…

*edit* It just switched. I timed it, and it was just 4 minutes. Now it’s back to the old, deleted theme

What I see has not changed from the first time I looked at it and it is not exactly like either of your last two images. Here is what I see: https://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=291g9dv&s=8#.VY9E6_lVgSU

    Hello,
did you find any solution for this? I’m having a very similar problem… the session expires and the last changes I made (everything… from updating the worpress core to adding new products in woocommerce) disappear) and suddenly everything comes back to the “recent version”.
