Set admins for sections of site

    Relatively new to WordPress, but haven’t been able to find the answer to this question; I assume I’m searching using incorrect terms.

    I’m setting up a couple mid-sized websites. For instance, one is for a church where there will be a secretary who will update a good majority of the site. But, the youth pastor needs to be able to administer all the youth pages, but not other parts. Does WP allow for this in some way?

    Somewhat related, does anyone have a resource to could recommend that might help me better understand WP for these types of websites? So much of the documentation is blog-centric.

  • You need to start looking at some role management plugins.

    I’ve used User Access Manager in conjunction with User Role Editor for this type of thing.

    The best way to learn is by doing, just don’t give them an aggressive timeline, go slow and make sure you do it right.

    Realistically, what timeline would you give to a customer? I have four sites in the queue if I want them, but three have to be done and turned over by January. Lots to learn, but That shouldn’t be a problem in any way if they get me content and I keep reading, correct?

    I like a ninety day development cycle, but if they want something shorter, you just need to tell them that they can’t make infinite design changes and flip flop on this feature or that, there needs to be a definitive cut off date for that sort of thing. Which there should be anyway I guess.

    Ditto. Anything longer than that and the impetus tends to fall off exponentially IME. But I’ve also launched sites inside 2 weeks flat.

    Sounds about right. If people are responsive, I can see a few weeks being realistic, but most times there’s a week waiting on approval or a response. Been there.
