Set display name?

Is it possible for a user to set their display name? I’ve registered as a test student but can’t see anywhere to change the display name.
All I see is my email being displayed and I can imagine many users would not be happy to have their email displayed publicly.

Almost found the answer on Buddypress forum.

I checked ‘Extended Profiles’ which the allowed me to ‘sync with WordPress’. It appeared to then allow the user to change their display name but there’s still an issue. The email is still the user name and it’s displayed in the url when you look at the profile.
I’ll keep digging and hopefully find the answer.
