I have looked this up online but have not been able to find a solution. My client uploaded an image to use as a Featured Image, but apparently set it as a featured image before the image was done being processed on the back-end. Now there is a blank image showing up as the first image in the thumbnail listing in the Set Featured Image dialog. I cannot delete it and I cannot use any other images as Featured Images. They do not “take” when selected and used.

I found a ticket online for the core files but none of the solutions there have worked: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/23317.

Is there a way to delete something from the database in order to have the blank image disappear and allow other images to be used as Featured Images?

EDIT – Forgot to mention that I am using WordPress 3.5.1

  • Regenerating the image will fix it most of the time.

Unfortunately that did not work. Based on the link I provided it appears to happen when an image is set as a Featured Image before the image has finished processing. The resulting blank image only shows up in the Set Featured Images dialog. I have attached a link to a screen capture of this.

What I need to find out is how to get rid of this blank image/entry so that I can attach a Featured Image. Because of this issue I cannot add any image as a featured image in on any post.

That’s indeed odd. Never really seen that before. Have you tried using a different browser? Maybe the javascript is wonky for some reason.

Well it’s just as I thought. It was nothing I did. There was a WooCommerce plugin that caused the issues and they just now came out with an update that fixed it. For future reference the plugin was “Smart Manager for e-Commerce” by Store Apps.

Thank you for responding. I’m closing this topic.

Ah, I see. Who would have thought about that? Thanks for sharing, hope it will help somebody with the same problem.
