Great! I went through and manually added featured images for posts that weren’t caught on the site. I used your plugin to show me posts that didn’t have images, so it did make it a bit easier.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it next!

Another feature you might consider is adding a column to the admin post/pages list that shows the featured image. This plugin does that: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/post-list-featured-image/, but they are mostly trying to upsell to their pro plugin. I have it turned on for now, but would be nice if it was just part of your plugin instead ?? You already have this sort of thing available when you preview the filters, so wondering if it might be a simple add.

The additional image column for posts lists will come. I have already tested a prototype successfully and will implement the functions in the next version.

I think an option page will be comfortable, e.g. to set the visibility of the column lists, to set the default image for new posts etc.

Hello Emily, the new version 5.1 is out now. You will find more “first images” and can activate overwriting existing featured images.

I copy this out of the plugin’s FAQ:

How can I set a default featured image?

For that use the plugin twice:

    1. Remove all undesired featured images if there are some. If desired set the images using the option “Overwrite existing featured images”.
    2. Set the default image without the option “Overwrite existing featured images”. This will set the image to all posts without a featured image.

I will work on major changes to integrate the extra columns in posts lists and to consider new posts.

Your suggestions and notices are very welcome.

    Hi Hinjiriyo,

I just want to jump in and say “Thanks” for this plugin! I just used it to set the featured image on 200+ imported posts (the previously set featured images didn’t import for some reason).

However, I first ran the plugin with a date-range filter, to test it on posts from December 2013. There were 11 posts shown, but it didn’t actually set any featured images (in the preview it said “No Image” in both columns).

When I ran the plugin again – without any date filter – it worked great.

Just thought I’d mention it since this is a new feature. ??

    Thanks again,
    Andrew

Hi Andrew, I could not reconstruct your case. The images were set successfully with the use of the date filter – even with same year-month entries as start and end.

I can think about only one case: If the plugin says “No image” in both preview columns then one of the two “remove” actions was selected (“no image” in the “future” column) and the posts have no existing featured images (“no image” in the “current” column). So no image was set as featured image (“no image” in the result list).

So I mark this topic as resolved.

Hi Hinjiriyo – Sorry for not responding sooner. I have no idea why it didn’t work the first time for me, but since it did work perfectly on the second run (and nobody has been able to recreate it), I think it’s fair to chalk it up to a one-time glitch. ??

Thank you for your feedback! ??

Hi Emily, with the currently new plugin version 8.0 you can define rules for future default featured images.

If the plugin works as you expected I would like you to leave a review.

    Question before I install…
Can this plugin set featured images based on a possible filename?

    *sample.jpg

if contains “sample” set it featured.

Nice work this may come in vary handy for a 4 year old image archive we have.

No, the plugin can not do this. Maybe in future.

    Hi Martin,
I’m coming in at the same stage Emily initially did.

My site has 350 existing posts 80% without a featured image. All the images are within my site at martincrombie.co.uk.
I require the 1st image in each post to populate featured image.

So when I go to ‘Set, replace remove’ I selected radio button ‘Set the first post image as featured image. So far so good.
Next> Add filter > Not required straight to next
On the preview page it says ‘350 matches found’ but no images are present apart from the 20% featured images previously done manually.
I tried the confirm the change but nothing was ammended.
Am i missing something? Many thanks
    Martin

    Hello,

Can you add the feature to remove the first post image in the post if its used as the featured image.

My theme displays it twice now.
