Set Past Events to Draft

Is there a setting – or tool – to automatically set events to draft status when they have passed? …or set a WordPress class to the <article> of past events?

They are currently showing up in search results and I would like them not to. I have to use a search plugin to get tags to show in results on the website, so the solutions to hide events from search via function have not worked.
