Set preview image for social media

    Hi, on my website I would like to change the preview image for the static homepage when shared on WhatsApp, Facebook etc.

    I would like to use the logo as preview image. The other pages of the website do this automatically as there are no other pictures present on the page but the homepage has a picture and that one gets automatically used as preview image.

    I know how to choose the preview image from various images on a page but I don’t know how to set the logo as preview image.

    I got only the free version of Yoast SEO.

    Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

    Thanks for reaching out about sharing your homepage on social media. I ran the homepage URL through the Facebook sharing debugger, and the preview image is the logo. See screenshot. I believe this meets your expectations. If you get a different result from what’s in my screenshot, do let me know.

    Hi Maybellyne,

    Thanks for looking into this. After I wrote the post I continued to do some research and found out that Yoast SEO has the option to set the preview image for each page for Facebook and Twitter even in the free version. So, I was able to use that.

    But I would still like to find a way to change it also for WhatsApp.

    Do you mean for WhatsApp, you want an image different from what you’ve set for Twitter and Facebook? WhatsApp using the Open Graph protocol from Facebook. So whatever you set for Facebook will be used for WhatsApp. You can read more here

    Thanks for your explanation. That’s very interesting to know. I actually do want the preview image do be the same on FB and on WhatsApp but I’m still getting the old one on WhatsApp while I’m getting the new one on FB. I cleared the WhatsApp Caché but that didn’t have any effect.

    Taking a further look at the page source?of your website https://ninadowner.com/ I do see the duplicate instances of OpenGraph meta tags like?og:title, og:description,og:image, og:url, etc. This looks ambiguous. An additional set of OpenGraph tags seems to be added by the All-in-One-SEO plugin installed on your website. Your site should include a single set of social open graph metadata for consistent, predictable results. You might disable the All-in-One-SEO plugin entirely, as we don’t think you need more than one SEO plugin on the website.

    For your information, OG:IMAGE outputted by the Yoast SEO plugin this one, whereas from another plugin, it is the logo. Once you deactivate the mentioned plugin, please clear the cache and recheck the image in Whatsapp.
