Set-up Dev Site under current site?

  • I am redesigning a website for a client that currently has a wordpress site, hosted by Dream Host, domain name with Go Daddy. I have all the files for the current site on a Firezilla FTP. How do I set-up a dev section of the site that I can work on over the next few months that won’t impact the current site until I am ready to make the switch to the new site?
