I have two wordpress sites for which we’ve set the index page to be a page we’ve created within the site. The defined index pages worked properly for a while, but now they are defaulting to the index.php file in the template. I’ve tried changing the index page to loads of different pages via the admin area of the site, but the index page that is served up is always the default in the index.php page rather than the page that I specify should be the index page.

I find that manually changing the code to the index.php page is the only way to get the content & design I want to display as the index page.

I’m also seeing the same thing when I select a page to be the blog posts page.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thanks for the advice. I turned off the plugins and it worked like it should. Now to figure out which one caused the problem.
