setting max image size in responsive theme

I’m trying to set up a gallery on a responsive theme, but am having problems. I’m using this shortcode:
[ nggallery id=2 template=carousel ]
I want to be able to set it up so the images do not go over the actual size. But because the theme is responsive, when I view the website on a large screen the images are expanding to fit the screen.
What I’m using:
WordPress 3.8.1
Canvas 5.5.7
Woo Framework 5.5.5
NextGEN 2.0.40Is there a setting telling it not to exceed the actual size of the image?
