setting permalink to /index.php/emth causes 404 error?

  • I am trying to rebuild an old site, the custom permalinks works with pages like /article/1230132

    however when i try to rebuild pages with .php in them i get 404 error when trying to visit the page, specifically the url /index.php/emth

    any idea how to fix this and get this url working?
