Setting the depth still loads full menu in source

When I set the depth of the menu to 2, while the responsive menu only displays two levels, the entire menu is still loaded when I view the page source. For SEO reasons I only want the first 2 levels of navigation to be loaded, not just displayed. Is this possible without having to create a separate mobile menu?
