• Hi, I am hoping you can help me with a small problem. I am developing a site for a friend who already has a website up and running for his company. He has purchased a second hosting package and I have installed WordPress, hoping to put together the site so we can just change the nameservers when it is ready to launch with them having minimum downtime. The problem is that of course the log in page for me to get to the WordPress Dashboard is linking to his original domain name and not the new hosting package. I found this link (https://www.lockedowndesign.com/install-wordpress-without-domain-name/) and have tried that but still can’t seem to access the WordPress site I have just set up. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks.

  • @mcdogs,
    If you want to have multiple WordPress sites under the same domain.
    like-
    *domain.com/programs, domain.com/sales
    then you can sort this by just creating two folders named “programs” & “sales” and then copy two wordpress in those folders and setup everything.

    Hope this gonna help you ??

    Thanks Shawon but that’s not I want to do. I simply want to set up a new WordPress site, build it and then when it’s complete, redirect the nameserver from the existing site to the new one. The problem is that I can’t access the WordPress dashboard for the new site, because the URL takes me to the existing site.

    thanks really help me

    When you follow the instructions in the linked article, what happens? An alternative, if you happen to have a spare domain name hanging around, is to use that temporarily for the dev site.

    @shokotheloko,
    You are most welcome.

    @mcdogs,
    If you want to remove previous WordPress site, then you can simply delete previous WordPress folder and paste the new one there (copy previous WordPress folder as a backup if you want). Then you need to make changes in wp-config.php to connect with the database properly.

    That should work. Thanks ??

    @shawon786 I cannot do that sadly as this new page is hosted on a different hosting package to the orginal site. Maybe I am not explaining myself well sorry.

    At the moment there is a website on https://www.incotech.co.uk/

    The owner has now purchased a second hosting package, telling them that it would be for https://www.incotech.co.uk so I can build the new site

    Once the new site is ready, we’ll redirect the nameservers so they point to the new site instead of the old site

    I installed WordPress on the new hosting package, but to log in to the dashboard of the new site, the link I have is https://www.incotech.co.uk/wp-admin/ which is obviously linking back to the existing site and not the new one.
