Setting up “latest news” on home page

I’m looking for a plugin that will allow me to set up a “latest news” section on the homepage of my website. Ideally I would like it to sit where the “recent news” section currently is, and function more like a blog.

So far I can only find plugins that require me to set up a separate page for news which I don’t want to do.
