• I have searched this subject but the replies and docs just got me confused.

This is what I have so far:

An index page (index.php) on the root of my server
and the wordpress installed in /blog.

You can see what I have at : https://www.fethiye-guide.com

Now I haven’t done any work on the index page because I want to use the theme that my blog uses – same header color scheme etc.

This must be an “often desired” result so hopefully this thread will be helpful to many people.

As I said, I have searched and I got this in the docs:

“UPDATE: With the release of WordPress Version 2.1, the option to set your own front page can be accomplished via your Administration > Options > Reading panel. However unlike the old explanation that follows, you must NOT name your home page template file “home.php”. If you do, this will cause a conflict with the WordPress 2.1 system. The approach that follows on this page is no longer necessary with WordPress 2.1 or newer”

Well writing “can be accomplished via your Administration > Options > Reading panel.” doesn’t really help me to learn how to set it up !

I looked at the Reading Panel and it says:

When I go to Options> Reading it shows the following:

    “Blog Pages
    Show at most: _ posts

    Syndication Feeds
Show the most recent: _ posts
    For each article, show:
    _ Full text
    _ Summary

Note: If you use the <!–more–> feature, it will cut off posts in RSS feeds.

    Encoding for pages and feeds:
The character encoding you write your blog in (UTF-8 is recommended)

WordPress should compress articles (gzip) if browsers ask for them”

No mention of this setting a static home page.

    Did I miss something ?

    Thanks for any help

    Hi again,

    I found this link:

    https://www.richandstephsipe.com/wordpress/2007/02/12/wordpress-21-static-homepage/

However it starts with these words:
“With the release of WordPress 2.1 it is now possible to easily create a static homepage.”

Sounds promising but we now have version 2.3.3
Thats the one that I installed.

So should I follow the advice on this link to set up my static page (that will use the theme of the blog) ?

Will the “Rich and Steph” method do what I am hoping (see above post ) ?

    Thanks for any guidance ??

Well I started following Richards suggestion, only to find that the current version 2.3.3 does not seem to have the box to set the “Page Template” which I guess that 2.2 did have.

    So … I am stuck again ??

I think I got some of it working …
    On the Optins –> Reading

    Front Page
    Front page displays:

    Your latest posts

    A static page (select below)

    * Front page:
    * Posts page:

    1) The static page to become the Front Page
    2) Another static page that will be filled with the posts.

    Start Page: – Select – ( Home )
    Posts Page: – Select – ( My Blog )

Then I save the configuration with the button

Now I get TWO “home” pages

I have the same problem, two home page buttons. Any solutions?

You do NOT have two homepages” as Cattykool mistakenly stated. You have two links, actually, and it is the fault of your theme (designer): one of the links is hardcoded in the template file(s). The other, the good one, is the result of your settings.

    Solution: delete the hardcoded link.
