setting up new theme

    I am a wordpress beginner! I have downloaded different themes. When applying to new site they always look different. Where is the best place or how do I find help for setting up my site. I am usually pretty quick using templates but not getting wordpress easily. Some pages I pull up show quite a bit of code. What am I missing?
