My theme is a custom theme created by paid web developer. I have tired to use the “Posts” option in my Dashboard to create posts to keep our followers up to date with news.

My home page is set to static.
The post page is set to the correct page I want it to go to.
I’ve played around with the permalinks changing it to the default and then back to Post name.

Once the Post is published and I view the Page the Posts are directed to it opens up my home page. When I click on a Post and preview the individual Post it shows a blank page.

After contacting the web developer, she said she didn’t set that up when she designed the site. Is there anyway I can get this set up on my own without having to pay her to do it, or would it be too complicated for me?

  • So, to clarify…
You have a Static Home Page. [ Front page displays > A static page (select below) ]
In Settings > Reading, “Front page:” is set to the page named “Home” (or some other appropriate name) which is using the default Page template and contains some text, etc.?
In Settings > Reading, “Posts page:” is set to the page named “Blog” (or some other appropriate name) which is using the default Page template and has nothing in it?

What are your Permalinks set to? /%postname%/?

A link to your site, please.

    Yes.

Right now permalinks is set to Post name. It doesn’t matter if I change it to Default, my problem stays the same.

The home page opens when I view the Page that is set to have the Posts go to.

And if I go into my Posts dashboard and view a single post as I’m updating it, it shows a blank page. It appears the link for my posts are using the slug associated with it.

Ugh I clicked on the https://www.racenodak.com/nodak-news-test link I gave you and it worked? Why doesn’t work when I went to preview changes within the page?

Check Settings > Permalinks that they are set to /%postname%/

Then, go to Posts > All Posts.
Check the Title and the Slug by hovering ove the post title (don’t click on it) and links will appear underneath.
    Choose “Quick Edit”.
The title and the slug have to be exactly the smae except that the slug will be all small case and have-hyphens-in-between-like-this. ??
    Chek each post this way
If the title and slug are different, change the slug to match and hit the blue “Update” in the bottom-right corner.
