• Hello,

I have ‘IP Based Login’ set up on my system, which allows me to enter approved clients IP details. What information do I need to supply to the client to allow them to login from their end?

I am using a Dreamhost VPS.

    Many thanks and regards,
    Catherine Eagleson

    Hi,

This plugin allows to auto login i.e. without the login details to the IPs list you have added in the plugin settings.

So for e.g. if you allow IP range 12.13.14.15 – 12.13.14.20

So if any user accessing your WordPress site and has their ISP’s IP or their static IP within the allowed range they will be able to access the site without login details. They just need to access the domain and they will be logged in, you do not need to provide them with anything else.

You can use the following link to find your current IP :
    https://www.whatismyip.com/

Note : If the user does not access your site from the IP ranges allowed or if there are no IP ranges added the user can normally login with their username/password. This plugin does not add any restriction to that functionality.

Do let me know if you have any questions.

Hi there, thanks so much for your help.

I have checked with my client and when they login they are blocked with the WP Simple Membership plugin.

Do I need to provide them with the IP address of the Dreamhost VPS or my own computer?

The IP range for this client begins with the same number (not a range technically). Would this be the problem?

I look forward to hearing from you.

@cluedetective1 No you do not need to enter the VPS IP address or your computer IP address.

As your client to visit the following URL and give you the IP they see on this page :
    https://www.whatismyip.com/

They will see the text “My Public IPv4 is: “, the next part is their IP address.

Allow this IP address in your site in IP Based Login settings. Since this is a single IP use the same in Start IP and End IP as well.

    Hello,

I am still having problems resolving this. My client is still not able to login. He is blocked by the WP Membership plugin which directs him to become a member.

I have several more IP addresses to add for other clients, and have just checked whatismyip. The IP addresses are different to what I was given last time.

    Hi,

At the moment this plugin supports only default WordPress login system. If your site is configured with a custom login mechanism it will not work.

    Hi,
I am pleased to advise that I am making good progress.

I have one library connected up with EZProxy.

    We are seeing:

Clue Detective Puzzle Agency Logged in by IP Based Login <IP address>

However, we are getting the following error:

    Notice get_userdatabylogin is deprecated since 3.3.0! Use get_userby(‘login’) instead in <website url>

I am wondering how to update this.

The library has advised they have been able to access material for a short time, but are then logged out.

    Many thanks and regards,

    Hi,

I have made the required changes in the plugin and released v1.4.4 and now should not see the notice “get_userdatabylogin is deprecated”

Please update the plugin to 1.4.4 and check if you still face the issue.
