• Hey all,

I am trying to set up a wordpress website for myself. I tried following a tutorial and pretty much got to the last step before running into an issue. I bought my domain on 1and1.com and then used filezilla to connect to my site and transfer my wordpress download. According to https://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Build-a-Website-with-Wordpress—Part-2-of-2-71873900 it says that after I transfer my files to the website with webzilla all I have to do is go to my URL and wordpress will be asking me to set up my configuration. However when I go to my website I get a generic page from 1and1.com when i do https://ftp.mywebsite I see my wordpress files but not a page asking to set up my configuration.

Does anyone have any idea what I am supposed to do from this point?

    Sincerely,

    Max

    UPDATE:

Ok so I figured out that When I go to mywebsite/wp-admin I could get things to work and I got to the backlog of my website.

However now when I go to my website. MaxABerger.com it still does not work.

When i am in my backlog when I click on Maxaberger my wordpress site does not come up.

    What am i doing wrong?

    Sincerely,

    Max

You have a place holder so check if your have any other index file besides index.php that is wordpress file like index.html or index.htm delete the file if it is there.
or it could be that since you just bought the domain name it has not propagated yet.

Thank you! That was the problem!

Trying to install a Theme but keep running into the need to:

Click on Appearance – Themes menu from the WP admin panel, then select the theme to activate.

I search for Appearance in my CPanel but it is nowhere to be found in my WP files on my host site.

There has to be an easier way!

You are suppose to log in wordpress admin panel not cpanel

When I did, it took me to a blog I’d set up at wordpress.com, not .org. But, this is supposed to be running from my web host, not WordPress, so it will have a unique url.

If you want that domain to point to your host then you will need to change Name Servers at Registrar

I uploaded WP to my web server (Host Gator) using Fantastico to a sub-directory of my main url (/photo). All the setup was automatic. Then I uploaded Modularity-Lite to the wp-content/themes folder. That’s where everything goes dark. Appearance appears nowhere, except on the wordpress.com admin page, that I can see. When I go to the sub-directory domain (/photo) I only get an Index headed by the Parent Directory.

Not only am I not a programmer or code person, I am generally allergic to code.

Your main domain name is still pointing to wordpress.com that is why you can not get to your wordpress install in /photo on hostgator

I surrender. I’m bagging the whole notion and simply building a sub rather than going through the WordPress hoops
