Setting variation backorder quantity to ‘1’

    This is a follow up to my question Stock control for limited edition, make on demand artwork. To recap:

    My daughter produces limited edition framed architectural sculptures in limited editions. I’m using a product variation for each of the editions.

    – Edition 1 – sold.
    – Edition 2 – sold.
    – Edition 3 – available in web store.
    – Edition 4 – available in The Dublin Gallery. (Enquire for details.)
    – Edition 5 – available on backorder. (I haven’t made it yet!)
    – Edition 6 – available on backorder. (I haven’t made it yet!)

    The new question:
    How do I impose a limit of one backorder for Edition 5 and 6? i.e., If someone buys Edition 5 on backorder how should this be made unavailable to the next buyer?
