Settings – Media – Store uploads in this folder

  • Hello,

    I got an error message when trying to upload an image that said “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2015/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

    When I’ve had this issue before on other websites, I was able to fix it by editing the “Store uploads in this folder” in Settings – Media. But on this website, that option is not there.

    I’m using WP 4.1 on all my sites, but this is the only on where that option is not available. How can I change this setting?

    I got this fixed and wanted to post in case someone in the future needs it.

    I am working with a Windows server on GoDaddy and needed to change the file permissions in File Manager on the “uploads” folder. You can do this by checking the box next to the uploads folder and clicking the ‘Privacy’ button in the File Manager.

    Uncheck ‘Inherit’ and check ‘Web Writable’

    If the instructions I used didn’t work for you, you might be using a different server. I was using a windows server through GoDaddy. There’s more detail for different server types at the link below. Hope that helps!

    thanks i followed your earlier instructions and it didnt work, please can you provide the links, which is missing in your reply, am really frustrated about this problem, i can post test and numbers but unable to post images anywhere in the website not even to wordpress gallery.

    Thank you very much for your time and instructions, i have been able to resolve the issue successfully , can now post images to website
