I am running a Multisite environment, we have both a production and a test instance of WordPress with our theme and plugins. On the test instance I can’t access The Events Calendar settings page, it doesn’t appear and if try to navigate to it be modifying the production settings page URL it tells me I don’t have permission to access that page.

I’m logged in as a Super Admin and I tried making an test admin account and logging in as that and the menu still does not appear.

I’ve reviewed everything I can find and I can’t find any indication as to why we’re getting this behavior.

We’re on version 3.5.1 of The Events Calendar plugin and we can’t update test because 3.8.1 sends us to a “thanks for updating the events calendar” page that I once again don’t have permission to which effectively kills the admin panel for everyone.

We are running the “Members” (Role/capability management) plugin and the admin role has all the normal admin capabilities. The plugin doesn’t do anything to super admin capabilities so I don’t think this plugin is at fault which leaves me at a loss for whats causing this.

Below are all the menu items that appear in the “Events” menu for reference.

    • Events
    • Add New
    • Tags
    • Event Categories
    • Venues
    • Organizers
    • CSV Import
    • Event Add-Ons

Edit: Additionally this has been a problem since before WP 4.0.

    Hi bonnerl,

Thanks for getting in touch. We can’t really provide support for folks using an outdated version of the plugin- but I’d like to help you be able to update! This snippet will stop the ‘Thanks for updating’ screen from appearing. I’m hoping that by using that, you’ll be able to use 3.8.1.

Please give that a try and let me know. If you are able to update to 3.8.1 but you are still having the same problem, post a reply and we will look into it further.

    Thank you,
    Leah

Well I feel somewhat less then intelligent at the moment.

We had all the “Hide the following settings tabs on every site” options selected at the network level in our test environment.

With those options selected it was still trying to display the tribe activation page (aka thanks for upgrading) and subsequently it was saying we didn’t have permissions to view the activation page.
