Settings do not change in front end; how to disable [#] photos

1. I created an album w/ 2 galleries.
I wanted to change:
Lightbox type
and
Zoom Icon

I changed them, saved, the changes were reflected in the dashboard, but not reflected in the front end. Tried changing again, reserving, still not showing up.
How do I get setting changes to show on the front end?

2. How do I remove the red asterisk that shows how many photos are in each gallery? (other than css)
