• I like the plugin but there is an expensive flaw. If you run a campaign for paid traffic to your product pages and this plugin is misconfigured without the “woocommerce_gpf_” and then you run a smart shopping campaign in google using woocommerce merchant center plugin later. It will not be able to ‘match’ the two information sources. All that data is useless. If you spent tens of thousands driving traffic over a few months just know you will not be able to use it for data driven decisions in a smart shopping campaign and will have to start all over again. I think this is the fault of this plugin, he is aware this is an issue but yet doesn’t adequately address it in documentation or explain why this is so crucial. I like the plugin, but I think this is a huge oversight. I installed both plugins at the same time, I would assume it would detect the woocommerce version and autopopulate the woocommerce_gpf_ as a safegaurd.

    Hi @lowcostego

Thanks for your detailed review !

but yet doesn’t adequately address it in documentation

I do agree, that the documentation is sparse. I have plans to improve this, but all depends on available time, which is why I can’t give a timeline.

If you spent tens of thousands driving traffic over a few months just know you will not be able to use it for data driven decisions in a smart shopping campaign and will have to start all over again.

I disagree. And I think you are addressing several points at once. Let me try to dissect this.

    1. This plugin only collects data for the dynamic retail audiences. While they are very useful for dynamic remarketing bidding algorithms and are being used by Smart Shopping campaigns bidding algorithms, they are not the most important audiences for data driven decisions. The purchase conversions are the most important piece of information to track. And this plugin is not meant for tracking the purchase conversions (although it tracks purchases to build an audience with past buyers).

I guess you are using a different plugin for tracking purchase conversions, and that needs to be setup correctly too.

    2. When you install our plugin, you need to set up all fields correctly. Since our plugin doesn’t detect the identifier you are using in GMC, that is something you need to configure yourself. I thought about using some auto-detection (detecting which feed plugin is being used). But the problem is that it wouldn’t be accurate. There are too many edge cases where it would not yield the correct result (what if you’ve installed two feed plugins? One for production, one for testing). Therefore the responsibility of setting this up correctly is in the hands of the admin of the shop.

It will not be able to ‘match’ the two information sources

It will always match correctly if you set up the correct identifier when installing the plugin.

will have to start all over again

If you’ve been tracking purchase conversions then this is not true. Also, all data collected, if available and correctly tracked, is also available for Smart Shopping campaigns. The only case I could imagine is that you are using two different GMCs with with both use different product identifiers. If this is the case, this is a problem we can’t solve with our plugin, but would need to be correctly set up by the admin.

Now, I’m still not entirely sure if I understood the issues you face 100%. I’ll be happy to look into it and maybe find a solution in your current setup. Send me a message to [email protected] if you like so.
