Either I’ve forgotten that I changed the password or was hacked. Either way, i had recently setup two factor authentication through wordfence. When trying to login to my wordpress page, it is no longer the password i have saved. Obviously i would just reset the password however i no longer own that email.

Is there anything I can do in this situation?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi @playbunnysite, thanks for getting in touch.

As Wordfence doesn’t control the user accounts/passwords themselves, you might need to look up how to reset WordPress passwords without email access via a search engine of your choice.

However, if Wordfence’s 2FA itself is the issue, you can:

    • Use FTP/SFTP — or any file manager your web host provides via their administration panel.
    • Look inside the /wp-content/plugins/ directory and rename the wordfence directory to wordfence.bak. This will deactivate Wordfence and allow you to login without the 2FA code.
    • Once you have logged in to your WordPress admin you can name the folder back to wordfence again.
    • Go to your user profile and add 2FA back to your account, making sure to download the backup codes in case of problems in the future.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
