    Hello, everyone.

I am here because I need some help with WordPress, but first let me tell you the whole story.

Yesterday, I was in a desperate need for a PHP/MySQL blog, and after countless installations of crappy blog systems, I actually found that they lack themes, localisations, support etc. So I thought about WordPress – the most popular. The thought was not that rejuvenating, because I’ve had some headaches with WordPress before. But if all is crap, you choose the best crap among the crap. Please don’t judge me wrong, this was what I was actually thinking.
Unfortunately, www.ads-software.com was down. For hours. And for hours I tries to download the latest stable release from various other sites, with no result. They were either redirecting me to www.ads-software.com or they were providing old and/or localised versions. Dear WordPress developers, is it that hard to also put a link pointing to the latest stable release, somewhere else on the site? Like codex.www.ads-software.com? Because this was not down, and it was only by the might of Google that I found out. Or can’t you also use the sourceforge.net hosting? It’s ok if you parted with them, but isn’t it possible to mirror your downloads through them? Or just anyother site, I am sure there are thousands that would queue in order to host your latest releases. This way you will have happy, not frustrated users.

Finnaly, I found WordPress 2.0 – old – somewhere on codex. I thanked God and started uploading it. The installation was ok, but why do everyone has to rename wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php? Can’t you release the files in the archive already renamed?

After the installation it tried to customize the default theme. I thought about changing the logo. It was a pain in the ass, because the default logo was text and the logo I wanted to have was an image file. So I went to “current theme options” where, – surprise! – there was no option for replacing the logo with a picture. Very, vrey frustrating.

I also wanted to remove the useless links gathered under the title “blogroll”. The most usual method would be clicking on the “toggle select all” link and the pressing a single “delete” button, but sorry, wordpress hasn’t this as a feature. Instead, I had to delete each link, in turn. What about the people having MANY links? I think it’s hell for them.
I tried to delete the whole category, but wordpress told me “Processing data…” FOR TWO HOURS, before crashing my Mozilla Firefox.

As this wasn’t enough, wordpress people can’t say “Manage skins/templates”, they have to say “Presentation”.

The options page was full of useles options, none of them being even related to issues like: “changing the theme”, “changing thge logo”, “sorting the item order on the main page” (i.e. I want my Pages to appear after the Archives section”), etc. etc.

Getting help online was a headache today too. The wordpress help search engine has’t ever heard about RELEVANCE. The forums were preceded by some random, inestethic bunch of words, a feature intended to confuse the users, rather than enlightening them. Finnally I found the forums after scrolling a lot. And now I post here, hoping that somenone would hear me and change something for me and for “dumber”, newbie++ wordpress users than me.

Maybe I’m just too nervous, but I felt like saying these things. Please just don’t delete this post and give me some answers if you can. And excuse my crappy English.

As for the help needed, how do I remove for all the “Meta” menu that appears after wordpress installation? And I mean ALL of it.
And how do I remove all the feeds, atom rss etc. features that no one uses because are useless?

you just go to the sidebar.php menu in ‘presentation’ -> ‘theme editor’. You look for the bit of text that has ‘meta’ in it and you delete all of it. (don’t delete the next menu structure)
