several languages
-
I would like to communicate with more than Swedes…at least in another three languages: English, German and French. Hopefully there is a plugin making it possible for my users to choose any of these languages. Or Swedish:-)
I’m grateful for any options to make [ deleted ] more international!
Best Regards, Dan-

Hello,
There are several plugin you can use to create a multilingual website with WordPress. You can browse the tag “multilingual” for some examples: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/tags/multilingual/
Note that most solutions are aimed at enabling you to translate the content manually, but there are a few that use machine translation (for instance Google Translate). With machine translation, obviously, you can have it all done in minutes, but there will be strange things and incorrect translations in various places, something that may create a peculiar experience for your visitors.Keep an eye on “supported version”, since some of these plugins haven’t been updated for several years.
In this regard, I should also mention one big commercial product, WPML, which, however, may be demanding too much server capacity to be a good choice for use on shared hosting.
So far so good, i.e.how do I handle point 5 and 6*?
How do I add ‘language switcher’ widget?
PS Do you think my choice of Polylang is OK?

Installation
1. Make sure you are using WordPress 4.7 or later and that your server is running PHP 5.2.4 or later (same requirement as WordPress itself)
2. If you tried other multilingual plugins, deactivate them before activating Polylang, otherwise, you may get unexpected results!
3. Install and activate the plugin as usual from the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
4. Go to the languages settings page and create the languages you need
5. Add the ‘language switcher’ widget to let your visitors switch the language.
6. Take care that your theme must come with the corresponding .mo files (Polylang automatically downloads them when they are available for themes and plugins in this repository). If your theme is not internationalized yet, please refer to the Theme Handbook or ask the theme author to internationalize it.Widgets are boxes with dynamic or static content that your theme may show on almost every page.
You are currently using the theme
mh-magazine-lite
. It has support for a sidebar. (However, if you open your site on a narrow screen, perhaps on a mobile, the sidebar moves down to the footer instead.)In the admin menu you can select Appearance → Widgets to open a screen, where you can drag various available widgets to a suitable “Widget area”, like your sidebar. When the Polylang is activated, its widget will be available in that screen.
(You can also do this in the Customizer view (Appearance → Customize))
Polylang is a popular plugin, so I think it’s a good choice in your situation.
As usual: I’ve destroyed everything and come to a dead end…what I wish to create is a welcome page with a only a Picture ‘understandable for everybody’ plus four language selectors(buttons-pictures) of own design (english, german, fran?ais, swedish).
Is that possible?
Best Regards, DanI personally have never used Polylang, so I can’t just tell you exactly what to do. Besides, I don’t know how you have configured / want to configure your specific site.
I suggest you start by looking through the “getting-started” documentation at https://polylang.pro/doc-category/getting-started/
If you still have questions, look / ask in https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/polylang/ where you can get help from other people, who are using the same plugin.
You want to offer your visitors everything on your site in several languages and at the same time want any strings that are part of your theme and plugins to also be translated. (404-pages “Not found” in each language, for instance). But if your main content, and blog, etc. is in one language only, and you just want to have a short presentation of your project in various additional languages, then it’s much better to just create those pages without any multilingual stuff. And, as you may have noted, multilingual makes your site harder to maintain.
Side note @jenithastaspjk It’s early for me so I’m going to save time and just try and be direct. Please be aware that I mean no offense but you’ve been doing something that needs to stop.
