• Wordfence has been a lifesaver, and routinely stops login attempts from all my sites. But a quick question: Every once awhile a site will get a LOT of login attempts. I’ve had one going all day. Again – Wordfence is doing its job – but I’m wondering if there is something extra I can/should do when a severe attack is occurring like this?

    thanks…

    Hi @daveb444,

Thank you for reaching out! I recommend reviewing our Rate Limiting and Brute Force Protection settings in Wordfence > All Options. Our documentation details each setting and outlines our recommendations. If you’re the only user logging into the site, you can probably make the Brute Force Protection settings much stricter than the default recommendations.

    Rate Limiting: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/rate-limiting/
    Brute Force Protection: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/brute-force/

Please keep in mind that Wordfence, as an endpoint firewall, can’t prevent access attempts altogether. Instead, you’ll see that the access was blocked with a 503 or 403. As long as Wordfence is blocking the attempts and you’re not seeing an impact on your hosting, you can rest easy.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Thanks,
    Margaret
