• I’ve been using WordPress Hit Counter Version 2.6 for some time and have really liked it. However over the past few days my WordPress sites have slowed to a crawl with pages taking 60+ seconds to load. I found WordPress Hit Counter Version 2.6 to be the culprit.

When checking the MYSQL processes there were a list of processes with a “sleep” command. Every time a page was requested MYSQL would sleep for 60 seconds before serving the page.

Deactivating the WordPress Hit Counter immediately fixed the problem! Pages load in 1 second rather than 61 seconds with the counter.

Please find a fix for this as I really like the counter.

I should add that I had the counter installed on 6 separate WordPress websites and all were affected the same. Each sites speed returned to normal as the counter was removed.

    Use Statcounter. statcounter.com

I really hope this gets fixed/updated so I can continue using it. Every other counter I tried only lets me use their default designs. But I have my own counter image designs I want to use.

Also would like to add that My problem was also solved after de-activating the plugin. I can’t even re-activate now though for some reason. Not that I would want to till a fix gets found.

I had the same problem with it.

Don’t update the plugin! That’s what corrupts it. Read more info on it here.
